ELF Announces Hiring of Sara Miller as New Executive Director

The Evergreen Legacy Foundation (ELF) Board of Directors has hired Evergreen resident Sara Miller as its new executive director effective January 1, 2027. Over the next few months, Sara will continue to lead the Center for the Arts as its Executive Director while transitioning into her new role with ELF. Miller will guide ELF as it continues to support local infrastructure and safety improvements while becoming a grant-making community foundation. Sara succeeds ELF’s first executive director, Linda Kirkpatrick, who passed away in August.

“We are delighted to welcome Sara as executive director,” said ELF Board of Directors President Sharon Wood. “Sara’s extensive background in nonprofit work, thoughtful leadership of the Center for the Arts Evergreen, natural talent for building relationships, and enthusiasm for establishing ELF as a community foundation make her a great match for us.”

“I've always believed that community is the reason we get up in the morning. It's the connections we build and the ways we care for one another that make a place truly special,” said Miller. “That's why I'm incredibly excited to lead Evergreen Legacy Foundation's work to bring people together and make this wonderful place we call home even better for generations to come.”

Miller, who has served as both executive director and director of exhibitions, education and outreach in her 7 years with Center for the Arts Evergreen, is credited with expanding and diversifying CAE’s programming, promoting community engagement and enhancing its development efforts.  Prior to her roles at CAE, Sara gained nonprofit experience through her work at Dinosaur Ridge, the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado, and Goodwill Industries. Sara was an arts and features columnist for the Canyon Courier for 10 years.

The Evergreen Legacy Foundation invests in our community and mobilizes people, ideas, and resources to preserve and strengthen the quality of life in Evergreen. ELF’s vision is an Evergreen shaped by active community participation, bold ideas, and a lasting commitment to its future.

Through strategic grants, partnerships, and community investment, the Foundation empowers local nonprofits, civic initiatives, and infrastructure projects that promote safety, connectivity, resilience, and a shared sense of belonging for everyone who calls Evergreen home.

Recent ELF projects include the paving of Meadow Drive, installation of a crossing light on Highway 74 and Kerr Gulch Road, painting of a mural in the tunnel connecting Center Stage to the Church of the Transfiguration, and allocating Evergreen Strong funds to organizations responding to the last year’s Evergreen High School shooting.

What is the Evergreen Legacy Foundation ?

Check out ELF's new video!

The Evergreen Legacy Foundation (ELF) collects a 1% donation added to the bottom line of receipts of participating area merchants and restaurants to fund critical public safety projects in the activity centers of Evergreen that are otherwise not being addressed. Businesses and individuals can also make direct donations to the fund.

In addition, ELF serves as a coordinator and/or conduit for legacy projects funded privately or in partnership with ELF.

ELF meets two critical requirements for applying for grants: It serves as a reliable fundraising source and it has an established partnership with a governmental agency.

Why is there a need?

Evergreen is not incorporated, and as such does not have any public infrastructure management or the ability to make improvements and much needed repairs to our local Evergreen business and activity centers. It is important to get local life safety and connectivity projects done that are not otherwise the obligation of local or state agencies.

Evergreen is at risk from over-use and under-repair. It is time our current infrastructure lives up to the exceptional quality of life that brought us all to this wonderful community.

By becoming an Evergreen Legacy Foundation Member your participation and donations will be used to improve our local infrastructure and business and activity centers in numerous ways…
