Executive Director, Evergreen Legacy Foundation

 

Help Build Evergreen's Community Foundation for the Future

Evergreen Legacy Foundation (ELF) seeks an entrepreneurial, relationship-driven Executive Director to help lead its transition into a thriving community foundation. Working closely with an engaged Board of Directors, the Executive Director will strengthen philanthropy in Evergreen by building donor relationships, expanding community partnerships, and developing the systems and infrastructure needed for long-term impact.

This position begins as a part-time contract role (20–30 hours per week) with the expectation of growing into a full-time leadership position as the Foundation expands.

Founded as a Local Improvement District, ELF is evolving into a broader community foundation dedicated to mobilizing resources, fostering partnerships, and strengthening the Evergreen community for generations to come.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership and implement board priorities.

  • Develop organizational systems, policies, and operational processes.

  • Support the Foundation's transition into a sustainable community foundation.

  • Foster a culture of integrity, stewardship, collaboration, and community engagement.

Philanthropy and Donor Development

  • Build relationships with donors, fundholders, professional advisors, and prospective supporters.

  • Develop strategies to grow charitable assets, including endowed, donor-advised, and unrestricted funds.

  • Promote a culture of philanthropy and legacy giving throughout the community.

Community Partnerships and Engagement

  • Serve as the Foundation's primary ambassador and spokesperson.

  • Build relationships with nonprofits, civic leaders, businesses, schools, faith communities, and government agencies.

  • Identify community needs and opportunities for collaboration and building partnerships.

  • Lead communications, public outreach, and storytelling efforts that highlight donor and community impact.

Grantmaking and Governance

  • Support the Board in establishing grantmaking priorities and practices.

  • Ensure resources align with donor intent and community priorities.

  • Prepare board materials, recommendations, and reports.

  • Support board recruitment, development, and effective governance.

Financial and Administrative Management

  • Develop budgets and oversee financial operations in partnership with the Board and Treasurer.

  • Ensure compliance, transparency, and sound financial stewardship.

  • Manage contracts, vendors, records, technology, and administrative operations.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Five or more years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, philanthropy, community development, business, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated success building organizations, programs, partnerships, or initiatives.

  • Experience in fundraising, donor engagement, or relationship management.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working with boards, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

  • Financial management and budgeting experience.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with community foundations, donor-advised funds, planned giving, or related philanthropic models.

  • Experience working with major donors and professional advisors.

  • Familiarity with grantmaking and nonprofit capacity building.

  • Knowledge of Evergreen or similar mountain and rural communities.

Culture and Governance

ELF is led by an active, mission-driven Board that values collaboration, innovation, and community leadership. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board to guide organizational growth, expand community impact, and help evolve the Foundation from a volunteer-supported organization to a sustainable community foundation with dedicated staff and governance-focused leadership.

Reporting Relationship

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with Board leadership to advance the Foundation's mission and strategic priorities.

Position Status

Part-time contract position averaging 20–30 hours per week. Compensation ranges from $45–$52 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

As the Foundation grows, the Board anticipates expanding this role into a full-time Executive Director position.
